The Grumman F6F Hellcat was the aircraft that decisively turned the tide of the Pacific air war in favour of the United States. Designed specifically to outperform the Mitsubishi Zero, the Hellcat's combination of power, ruggedness, and firepower made it the highest-scoring Allied fighter of the Pacific War — accounting for over 5,000 enemy aircraft, more than any other Allied naval fighter. The F6F-3 was the initial production variant that first entered combat in 1943, quickly establishing air superiority over the Japanese Navy from the decks of Essex-class carriers. This Hasegawa 1/48 kit represents a Hellcat from USS Essex herself, with authentic markings and the detail definition that 1/48 scale demands.
