The F-4K Phantom FG.1 was a uniquely British adaptation of the McDonnell Douglas Phantom, re-engined with Rolls-Royce Spey turbofans to meet Royal Navy carrier requirements. Serving with 892 Naval Air Squadron aboard HMS Ark Royal until the carrier's controversial withdrawal from service in 1978, the FG.1 was the Fleet Air Arm's last conventional fixed-wing fighter — a powerful and capable aircraft retired prematurely by defence cuts. The Late vol.1 kit from Hobby 2000 presents the FG.1 in its mature service markings with the distinctive Spey engine intakes and folding wing tips that set it apart from USAF and RAF Phantoms.
A must-have for Royal Navy aviation and Cold War carrier enthusiasts.
