The Bedford MW was the British Army's standard 15cwt light utility truck of the Second World War, serving in virtually every role from staff car substitute to light cargo carrier across every theatre from Norway to Burma. The MWD general service variant in open-cab configuration with aeroscreen windscreen represents the truck in its earliest and most austere form, as used in the desert campaigns where the open cab was a practical choice in the North African heat. Fast, manoeuvrable, and produced in vast numbers, the MW was the Land Rover of its generation — the vehicle that turned up everywhere and did everything.
