The Bedford QLB was the Bofors gun tractor variant of the QL family, modified to tow the 40mm Bofors light anti-aircraft gun and carry its crew and ammunition. Anti-aircraft batteries depended on mobile tractors to keep pace with the armoured formations they protected, and the QLB's four-wheel drive gave it the cross-country capability to follow tanks and infantry off the road. The Bofors gun was the Allies' most effective light AA weapon, and the QLB was what brought it to the fight. The distinctive body modifications and towing equipment give this variant its own character within the Bedford QL range.
