The "Sawn-Off" Daimler was a field modification carried out in the Far East theatre, where the normal turret-mounted 2-pounder gun was removed and replaced with improvised open-top arrangements to improve visibility and ventilation in the sweltering jungle heat. The nickname captures the improvised, practical character of these modifications — armoured car crews adapting their vehicles to the specific demands of fighting in Burma and Malaya, where the jungle terrain made very different demands from the open desert or European countryside. A rare and unusual variant that tells the story of battlefield improvisation at its most creative.
