The Chevrolet C60L Ambulance was the medical evacuation truck of the CMP family — the vehicle that carried wounded men from the regimental aid post back through the evacuation chain to field hospitals and beyond. Fitted with stretcher racks and medical equipment in a dedicated enclosed body, the C60L Ambulance served across every Commonwealth theatre, its Red Cross markings providing (in theory) protection under the Geneva Convention. The clean white and red markings of a properly turned-out ambulance make a striking contrast to the olive drab of the rest of the CMP fleet, and the humanitarian role of this vehicle gives it a different emotional character from any weapon or fighting vehicle in the range.
