The Semovente M40 da 75/18 was Italy's best armoured fighting vehicle of the early war period — a 75mm howitzer mounted in a well-armoured, low-profile casemate on the M13/40 chassis, creating a weapon that could outrange and often penetrate the British armour it faced in North Africa. At El Alamein the Semovente da 75/18 was the only Italian vehicle consistently able to take on British armour with a reasonable chance of success, and it earned the respect of both sides. The distinctive low silhouette, absent the tall turret of conventional tanks, makes it immediately recognisable and gives it a clean, aggressive profile that builds into a striking model.
