The photographic reconnaissance Spitfires were among the most important aircraft of the war — unarmed, painted in PRU Blue, and relying entirely on speed and altitude to survive, they brought back the photographs that revealed German order of battle, tracked U-boat movements, and confirmed the results of bombing raids. The PR Type A, B, and E variants represent the earliest adaptations of the Spitfire airframe to the reconnaissance role, with cameras fitted in various configurations to the fuselage and wing leading edges. IBG's multi-marking kit allows builders to represent the aircraft at different stages of the PR development programme — a fascinating niche subject with a crucial wartime role.
