The Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army were among the most respected fighting men in the Second World War — soldiers whose martial tradition, discipline, and fighting quality gave them a formidable reputation in every theatre they served, from North Africa and Italy to Burma and the Pacific. In 1942, Sikh rifle units were fighting in some of the most brutal and demanding conditions of the war, including the retreat through Burma and the defence of the Indian frontier.
