The Douglas DB-26 Invader in its role as a drone director aircraft represents a fascinating Cold War chapter — modified Invaders were used to launch and control Ryan Firebee target drones for missile testing and evaluation programmes, pairing one of the Second World War's finest light bombers with one of the Cold War's most important unmanned aircraft in a single operational package. ICM's boxing captures both aircraft together, providing the mother ship and the drone as a combined model that tells the complete story of how drone technology was developed and deployed in the 1950s. An unusual and technically interesting subject for enthusiasts of Cold War aviation and the history of unmanned aircraft.
