The Roman legionary of the 1st and 2nd centuries AD represents the Imperial Roman army at its most formidable — the fully equipped miles of the Principate period, armed with the pilum, gladius, and large scutum shield, and protected by the iconic lorica segmentata articulated plate armour that has defined the popular image of the Roman soldier ever since. This was the army that conquered Britain, destroyed Jerusalem, defeated Dacian and Parthian enemies, and maintained the Pax Romana across an empire stretching from Scotland to Mesopotamia. The figures in this set capture the variety of poses and equipment typical of legionary infantry in the field, making them ideal for diorama scenes depicting frontier warfare, siege operations, or marching columns. Originally produced by the legendary Esci company and reissued by Italeri, these moulds have stood the test of time as among the most accurate and well-detailed 1/72 Roman figures available. Essential for ancient history diorama builders, painters, and wargamers.
