Matchbox 1/48 Messerschmitt Bf109G (PK-461)

The Messerschmitt Bf 109G — the Gustav — was the standard Luftwaffe single-engine fighter from 1942 onwards, and more examples of this variant were built than any other mark of the 109. Powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine, the G series offered improved speed and firepower over earlier variants, but also increased weight and handling complexity that its predecessors had avoided. The Gustav fought on every front — over Malta, in North Africa, on the Eastern Front, and defending the Reich against Allied bombers — and was operated by Luftwaffe aces including Erich Hartmann, who flew Bf 109Gs to achieve a claimed 352 air combat victories, the highest total of any fighter pilot in aviation history.
