The Heinkel He 115 was the Luftwaffe's principal torpedo bomber and maritime patrol floatplane of the Second World War, a large twin-engine aircraft that saw service across the North Sea, the Norwegian coast, the Baltic, and the Mediterranean. Designed in the mid-1930s, the He 115 was actually outright faster than most contemporary flying boats and floatplanes, setting eight world speed records for seaplanes in 1938. In Norwegian service, He 115s were used against the German invasion fleet in April 1940, and some escaped to British control where they were operated by the RAF on clandestine missions into occupied Norway — a remarkable footnote in the type's operational history. MikroMir's kit brings this often-overlooked Luftwaffe maritime type to 1/72 scale with authentic detail.
Record-setter, torpedo bomber, and unlikely RAF asset — the He 115's extraordinary double life.
