The Cougar 6x6 MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) was developed in response to the devastating toll that improvised explosive devices were taking on conventional light vehicles in Iraq and Afghanistan. Its V-shaped hull deflects blast outwards and downwards rather than into the crew compartment, and its 6x6 drivetrain gives it the cross-country mobility required for patrol operations in difficult terrain. The MRAP procurement programme became one of the largest and fastest military vehicle acquisition efforts in US history. Meng's 1/35 Cougar is a highly detailed model of this important modern vehicle, capturing the complex armoured hull geometry and mission equipment of a vehicle that saved countless lives.
