The U.S. Army Military Police Corps performed functions that were essential to the functioning of any large military force: controlling traffic at road junctions, managing prisoner of war handling, enforcing discipline in rear areas, and maintaining the flow of supply convoys through the congested road networks of the European and Pacific theatres. MPs were immediately recognisable by their white helmet liners, brassards, and the authority they wielded over soldiers of any rank in their jurisdiction.
