The Boulton Paul Defiant Mk.I entered RAF service in 1939 as a radical departure from conventional fighter design — a two-seat turret fighter with all armament concentrated in a hydraulically operated dorsal turret carrying four .303 Browning machine guns. The concept promised a new approach to bomber interception, and in its first engagements over Dunkirk the Defiant achieved surprise against Luftwaffe pilots who mistook it for a Hurricane. That advantage was short-lived: once the Germans identified the type's blind spots, losses mounted rapidly and the Mk.I was withdrawn from daylight operations. This MPM kit captures the Mk.I in exceptional detail, with a highly accurate interior that brings the cockpit and turret mechanism to life for serious scale modellers.
The turret fighter that surprised everyone — once. Modelled here in its finest detail.
