The Buffalo A2 is the definitive route-clearance vehicle of the post-Cold War era — a massive, V-hulled machine developed specifically to find and neutralise improvised explosive devices on roads in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other theatres where IEDs became the dominant threat to coalition forces from 2003 onwards. Its most distinctive feature is the long hydraulic arm extending from the front of the vehicle, used to probe suspect objects and trigger IEDs at a safe distance from the crew compartment. The Buffalo's V-shaped hull deflects blast away from the crew, and its survivability record under IED attack was exceptional — it became one of the most trusted vehicles in the US Army and Marine Corps route-clearance inventory.
