The Beechcraft AT-11 Kansan was the standard bombardier and aerial gunnery trainer of the United States Army Air Forces throughout the Second World War, with nearly 1,600 built between 1941 and 1945. Derived from the Model 18 Twin Beech, the AT-11 provided the platform on which the majority of USAAF bombardiers qualified — it is estimated that around 90% of all American bombardiers who served in the war trained on the Kansan. Its twin-engine layout, stable flying characteristics, and nose transparency that replicated the B-17's bombardier position made it an ideal training aircraft for the precision bombing campaign that the Eighth Air Force would carry to Germany. PM Model's 1/72 kit covers a subject central to the USAAF's combat effectiveness that rarely appears in scale.
