The Sukhoi Su-15 was the Soviet interceptor that shot down Korean Air Lines Flight 007 in September 1983 — an incident that killed 269 people and brought Cold War tensions to one of their most dangerous flashpoints. Designed as a dedicated high-speed interceptor to defend Soviet airspace against Western bombers and reconnaissance aircraft, the Su-15 entered service in 1965 and was operated exclusively by the Soviet Air Defence Forces, never exported. The TM variant — Flagon-F in NATO reporting nomenclature — was the most capable production version, fitted with improved radar and R-60 air-to-air missiles. Despite its notoriety, the Su-15 remains a genuinely obscure subject in scale, and PM Model's 1/72 kit is one of the few accessible options for modellers interested in Soviet air defence.
