The Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 was one of the final and most capable variants of Germany’s principal fighter — a development of the Gustav series incorporating the more powerful DB 605D engine and other late-war refinements that gave it performance competitive with the best Allied fighters of 1944–45. The G-10 entered service in significant numbers in the closing months of the war, serving with home defence Jagdgeschwader attempting to intercept the overwhelming Allied bomber formations raiding Germany. More Bf 109s were built than any other German aircraft of the war — over 33,000 in total — and the Gustav series represented the type at its most developed and most demanding to fly. Revell’s mainstream 1/72 kit is a well-established and accessible version of this enduring subject.
