Special Hobby 1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XII (SH48107)

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XII was the first Griffon-engined Spitfire to enter RAF service — a single-stage supercharged development optimised specifically for low-altitude interception, where its Griffon III or IV engine gave it a decisive performance advantage over anything the Luftwaffe could put up at height bands below 20,000 feet. Issued exclusively to Nos. 41 and 91 Squadrons at Hawkinge and later Westhampnett, the Mk.XII was used to intercept hit-and-run Fw 190 fighter-bomber raids along the south coast — a specialised and demanding role that the aircraft performed with considerable success before being superseded by the Mk.XIV. Special Hobby’s 1/48 kit offers a well-detailed rendition of this short-production, operationally specific Spitfire variant.
The Griffon Spitfire built for the deck — Mk.XII low-altitude interceptor in 1/48 scale.
