The M4A3E8 — universally known as the Easy Eight — was the definitive Sherman of the Second World War’s final year, combining the HVSS horizontal volute spring suspension with wider tracks that gave it genuinely improved cross-country mobility and a much smoother ride than earlier Shermans. Powered by the Ford GAA V8 and armed with the 76mm M1A1 high-velocity gun, the E8 was the best-balanced Sherman variant and served in large numbers in the final campaign in Europe and post-war in Korea, where it became famous through the television series and film M*A*S*H. Tamiya’s 1/35 kit is a highly regarded tooling of this important variant.
