The North American F-51D Mustang in Korean War service represents one of the more remarkable second acts in aviation history — an aircraft designed to fight the Luftwaffe at 30,000 feet pressed back into service as a ground-attack aircraft in the close air support role over Korea, where its range and load-carrying ability made it invaluable despite its vulnerability to ground fire. USAF, South African, and Australian squadrons flew the Mustang extensively in Korea until jet aircraft could fully take over the ground-attack mission, and the distinctive markings of the UN air forces give the builder rich options. Tamiya's 1/48 kit covers the Korean War F-51D with appropriate markings and equipment.
