The British Aerospace Sea Harrier FRS.1 is the aircraft that proved the Falklands War — a small force of 28 Sea Harriers from HMS Hermes and HMS Invincible shooting down 21 Argentine aircraft in air combat without a single loss to enemy fighters, using the AIM-9L Sidewinder and the aircraft's outstanding low-speed agility to overcome faster conventional opponents. The FRS.1 combined the Harrier's VSTOL capability with the Blue Fox radar and the ability to carry the full range of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons, making it a genuinely capable fleet defence and strike aircraft in a remarkably compact package. Tamiya's 1/48 kit captures this famous aircraft in its Falklands configuration.
The fighter that won the Falklands air war — Sea Harrier FRS.1 in 1/48 scale.
