The German battlecruiser Scharnhorst was the most aggressive of the Kriegsmarine's capital ships — sinking HMS Glorious and her two escorting destroyers in June 1940, participating in Atlantic commerce raiding with Gneisenau, making the Channel Dash in February 1942, and finally meeting her end at the Battle of the North Cape on 26 December 1943, where she was hunted down by HMS Duke of York and a destroyer screen and sunk with the loss of all but 36 of her 1,968 crew. Her end was the last major capital ship action in European waters. This early Waterline boxing is supplied without decals. Tamiya's 1/700 kit captures her in her operational wartime configuration.
