The Lindberg Line 1/48 JN-4D Curtiss Jenny (534-98)

The Curtiss JN-4D Jenny was the aircraft that taught America to fly — the primary trainer of the US Army Air Service during the First World War, in which the vast majority of American military pilots received their basic flight instruction. After the Armistice, surplus Jennies flooded the civilian market at low prices, launching the barnstorming era of the 1920s as ex-military pilots criss-crossed the country performing aerobatics and joy rides at county fairs. The Jenny defined American popular aviation in the decade between the wars, before the Piper Cub took over its role as the nation’s basic trainer. Lindberg’s 1955 kit is itself a historical artefact — one of the earliest American injection-moulded aircraft kits.
