HMS Kent was a County-class heavy cruiser — one of the “Treaty Cruisers” built to the Washington Naval Treaty limits of 10,000 tons and 8-inch guns — that served throughout the Second World War in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Indian Ocean. County-class cruisers were a familiar and important presence in the Royal Navy’s wartime dispositions, providing the long range and seakeeping required for ocean patrol and convoy protection. Kent’s career included operations in the Norwegian campaign and subsequent years of convoy and patrol work. Trumpeter’s 1/700 kit represents this capable Treaty Cruiser design.
