HMS Warspite in her 1942 configuration represents the most decorated British warship of the Second World War — her battle honours spanning Jutland, Narvik, Calabria, Matapan, Crete, and the Normandy landings making her the most battle-experienced capital ship in Royal Navy history. By 1942 she had received her full wartime anti-aircraft upgrade and the funnel modifications that distinguish her Second World War appearance from her First World War silhouette. At Matapan in March 1941 her 15-inch guns destroyed the Italian heavy cruiser Zara at point-blank range at night — one of the most devastating single salvos of the war. Trumpeter’s 1/700 kit captures this legendary ship at the height of her Second World War service.
