The Hetzer with the long 75mm L/70 gun was an experimental upgrade of the standard Jagdpanzer 38(t), replacing the PaK 39 with the more powerful KwK 42 L/70 gun as used in the Panzer V Panther — a weapon capable of penetrating virtually any Allied armour at combat ranges. The installation of the longer, heavier gun in the compact Hetzer hull created significant challenges with barrel overhang and balance, and the variant did not reach production, but it represents the logical end-point of the Hetzer’s development. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures this experimentally upgunned Hetzer variant for modellers interested in late-war German prototype armour.
