The Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf. N was a specialist close support variant of the Panzer III — armed with the short 75mm KwK 37 howitzer removed from early Panzer IV models, rather than the high-velocity 50mm anti-tank gun of combat Panzer IIIs. The Ausf. N was intended to work alongside Tiger I companies, providing high-explosive support against soft targets and anti-tank guns while the Tigers dealt with enemy armour. Ausf. N vehicles served on the Eastern Front and in North Africa from 1942, assigned to heavy panzer companies and independent Tiger battalions. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures this distinctive close-support variant.
