The Sturmgeschütz IV was an assault gun produced by mounting the superstructure of the StuG III on the hull of the Panzer IV — a pragmatic solution to the damage sustained by the Alkett factory in November 1943, which forced a switch of StuG production to the Krupp-Grusonwerk facility already producing Panzer IV hulls. Armed with the 75mm StuK 40 L/48 gun, the StuG IV was virtually identical in fighting capability to the StuG III and served alongside it in assault gun brigades on all fronts from early 1944. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures this Panzer IV-based assault gun variant.
