The Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer was Germany’s most produced tank destroyer of the Second World War — a compact, well-sloped casemate vehicle on the 38(t) chassis armed with the 75mm PaK 39 gun, light enough to be transported by rail on standard flatcars and small enough to conceal in cover that would expose a conventional tank destroyer. The commander’s variant featured modified observation equipment at the commander’s position, distinguishing it from the standard production vehicle. Hetzers served on both the Eastern and Western Fronts from 1944 and were exported to Switzerland and Czechoslovakia post-war. UM Models’ 1/72 kit captures the commander’s variant in compact small-scale form.
