The Handley Page W.8 Sparrow was a small inter-war commercial biplane adapted for RAF communications duties — a light, twin-engined aircraft used for VIP transport and communications work in the 1920s, operating with No. 271 Squadron which was the RAF’s dedicated communications and transport unit of the interwar period. The Sparrow represents the quiet, unglamorous but important world of inter-war RAF communications flying — moving senior officers, diplomatic bags, and urgent personnel between stations in the days before the jet made such journeys trivial. Valom’s 1/72 kit is one of the very few models of this obscure but characterful biplane transport.
