The Heinkel He 119A was the land-based variant of Heinkel’s extraordinary high-speed reconnaissance prototype — a coupled push-pull twin-engine design with the crew positioned in a glazed nose gondola and the engines buried in the fuselage driving a single tractor propeller through an extension shaft. Capable of exceptional speed for its era, the He 119 represented the concept that reconnaissance aircraft should be fast enough to outrun interception rather than armed to fight their way through. The design was ahead of its time and influenced subsequent Heinkel high-speed designs. Valom’s 1/72 kit captures the land-based He 119A in Luftwaffe markings.
