The Jagdpanther was the most capable German tank destroyer of the Second World War — the long 88mm PaK 43/3 gun mounted in a superbly sloped casemate on the Panther chassis, combining the Panther’s mobility with the anti-tank power of the 88mm that could defeat any Allied armour at any realistic combat range. The late production G1 variant incorporated the improvements developed through combat experience, including modified gun mantlet and simplified construction details. Jagdpanthers served on both Eastern and Western Fronts from 1944 and were feared by Allied tank crews who rarely had an effective counter when one was encountered.
